Retrofit vs. Full Replacement
Retrofit devices (SwitchBot Blind Tilt and Curtain 3) attach to the blinds or curtains you already have. Tube motors (the Zemismart and MOES roller motors) go inside a roller shade's tube, so they suit shades with a compatible tube. Full replacement options (a new motorized shade, or a curtain track with a motor) take more installation work.
Thread vs. Wi-Fi
Thread is a low-power mesh network, which suits battery-powered motors; it needs a Thread border router. Every tube motor in this guide uses Thread. Wi-Fi motors use more power, so for a battery-powered Wi-Fi motor check how it is charged.
Hub Required?
Some motors connect directly to Matter over Thread (Zemismart, MOES, Eve): no maker's hub is needed, just a Thread border router, which some smart speakers, streaming boxes and hubs include.
