About Google Home and Matter

Google Home was an early adopter of Matter. The Nest Hub (2nd gen), Nest Hub Max, and Nest Wi-Fi Pro all serve as Matter controllers and Thread Border Routers. Google Home supports commissioning Matter devices directly through the Google Home app on Android and iOS, with automations, routines, and voice control through Google Assistant.

How to add Matter devices to Google Home

  1. Make sure your Google Home controller (hub/speaker) is updated to the latest firmware.
  2. Put your Matter device in pairing mode (usually by holding the setup button).
  3. Open the Google Home app and tap "Add Device."
  4. Scan the Matter QR code on the device or its packaging.
